Lost, looking for meaning. I got you.

ree

Conversations are revealing.

I learn a tremendous amount about people, the human condition, and what people are thinking by engaging in random conversations. In a talk with a friend the other day, she mentioned how lost three out of four of her adult children seem to be.  While she knows where to ring each one in their respective places, they are lost as in lacking direction, unsure of how to find meaning in their lives. She looked up then and said, 'Maybe they are lost because they have lost God in their lives.' hmmm.

'These are the times that try men's souls'.1

Truth is what one believes, whether it has any basis in reality…

There is no right or wrong, just what is right or wrong for any individual…

History as recorded in countless books and archives is being rewritten so that what we thought we knew about ourselves and our forebears can no longer be trusted…

Marriage has been redefined—two men, two women, three people, anything goes

Christians are painted as dim-witted, unthinking fanatics who need a crutch…

The Bible has been discounted as antiquated, misogynistic, and irrelevant…

All religions are pretty much the same; if you need that sorta thing, choose the one you want, they all lead to God

The only meaning to be had is that which you scratch out for yourself.

If you cannot find meaning in your life, do what makes you feel good.

If you get sick of the monotony of meaninglessness, you can always opt out

after all, you are the master of your fate, and the captain of your soul.1

And we wonder why our young people are struggling with mental illness. . .  they are lost.  Totally confused about where to find direction for their shiftless existences, of course, they are lost!

     I have a solution.

     I have a cure.

     His name is Jesus.

In my last Morning Briefing, Live like there is no Tomorrow, https://conta.cc/4mkWJsr, it was my goal to remind us that life, the very air in our lungs, is a gift! Each of us has the choice to pursue a vital relationship with God every single day. Are you?

In JESUS we find Truth… not arbitrary truth, not your truth or my truth, but reality, the very embodiment of it and a Living God we can access today. In Jesus, we find the way to relationship with our loving Heavenly Father.2  It is true--life in Jesus is for today--life as it is meant to be—filled with hope and joy, and the promise of a forever with him.

Does it get any better than that?  I submit to you It. Does. Not.

The great thing about Jesus is that He. Really. Was.  And therefore, He. Really. Is.    You see, it is not just our gospel writers that record his life and existence, but other historians of that day… archaeology still being unearthed providing evidence of the place he was born, real places he taught and so on.  Proof of a historical Jesus points the way for us to examine what he claimed to be true, that he has gone before us to prepare a place to be with him forever.3

And in this life, Jesus Christ is our anchor. From the vestiges of my past, I remember standing next to my mother as a little blonde girl holding her hand--singing a beautiful old hymn.  Then I remember being seated at my piano, playing that same song while my brother Michael sang. The tune plays in my mind as I think how apropos the message for us today.

“Tho’ the angry surges roll on my tempest-driven soul,

I am peaceful for I know, wildly though the winds may blow,

I’ve an Anchor safe and sure, that can evermore endure.

And it holds, my Anchor holds: blow your wildest, then, O gale,

On my bark so small and frail; by His grace I shall not fail,

For my Anchor holds.

I can feel the Anchor fast as I meet each sudden blast,

And the cable, though unseen, bears the heavy strain between;

Through the storm I safely ride, till the turning of the tide…

Troubles almost ‘whelm the soul, griefs like billows o’er me roll;

Tempters seek to lure astray… storms obscure the light of day:

But in Christ, I can be bold, I’ve an Anchor that shall hold.3

The Anchor is Jesus Christ.  In Him we live and move and have our being.4

Back to the lady at the top: why is one of her four children not lost?  Because he sought out the Truth, and rather than being pulled this way and that by the tides of culture, he daily looks to God. He reads the Word for wisdom, guidance and direction, and his anchor holds.  I guess you could say he took the road less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.5

Consider this your invitation to Mornings with Jesus. Grab a Bible - wait... do not have one? I've got more good news! The Bible is free and easily accessed. Here is one link for your phone or other device: https://www.youversion.com/the-bible-app/.

Meaning for life is found in Scripture.

On Youversion (the app link) there are various translations; if you are new to Scripture, I recommend the New Living Translation. Start in the gospels--Mark or John maybe... There are also reading plans and suggestions.

And then, when you discover a life-giving truth from the Bible, write it down, carry it with you, memorize it. When you are overcome with troubling thoughts, (and let's be serious - who isn't?) speak it aloud, pray it.

The winds of revival are blowing across our nation and the world right now - get on board! Folks are flocking to church, and to rallies to gather and pray. It is happening - what the devil meant for evil (the killing of Charlie Kirk), the Lord is turning for good; people are looking to God. [Pray with me that our hunger for God will only grow.]

This life-giving truth is so apt, and so I pray it over you, my friends:

May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace

as you trust in him,

so that you may over flow with hope

through the power of the Holy Spirit.Roman 15.13
